Audi A6 Typ 4G: Voice Recognition System

Overview - Voice Recognition System

The voice recognition system enables voice operation of the telephone, Infotainment and navigation system.

Functions can be conveniently operated by voice commands. System is activated via the PTT button in the multifunction steering wheel.

The voice recognition system is integrated in the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-.

Fault finding is performed via "Guided Fault Finding" on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Overview - Voice Recognition System

1 - Front Information Display Control Head -J685-

  • Inside the center of the instrument panel

2 - Multimedia System Control Head -E380-

  • In center console

3 - Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-

  • In instrument panel
  • Connector assignment. Refer to → Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component locations.
  • Removing and installing. Refer to → Chapter "Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-, Removing and Installing".

4 - Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface -J533-

  • Underneath the rear seat bench
  • Refer to → Electrical Equipment; Rep. Gr.97; Control Modules; Overview - Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface.

5 - Steering Column Electronics Control Module -J527-

  • On steering column at steering column switches
  • Refer to → Electrical Equipment; Rep. Gr.94; Steering Column Switch Module; Overview - Steering Column Switch Module.

6 - Multifunction Steering Wheel

  • Buttons, Removing and Installing. Refer to → Chapter "Right/Left Multifunction Buttons on Steering Wheel -E441-/-E440-, Removing and Installing".

7 - Digital Sound System Control Module -J525-

  • Behind the left luggage compartment trim panel

8 - Radio -R-

Voice Recognition System, Removing and Installing

The voice recognition system is part of the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- inside the instrument panel. It cannot be replaced alone.

If it is faulty, then the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- must be replaced.

  Note

If replacing the control module, select the "Replace Control Module" function on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Removing

- Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.

- Remove Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-. Refer to → Chapter "Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-, Removing and Installing".

Installing

- Install Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-. Refer to → Chapter "Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-, Removing and Installing".

Perform the following function test:

- Switch on the Radio -R-.

- Press the PTT button on the multifunction steering wheel briefly.

A "Ping" tone sounds, the speech input system is active.

- Say the command "Help".

Since the Radio -R- is active, the speech dialog system responds with "Commands for the radio are...".

Depending on the equipment, other functions can be selected:

- If a telephone is installed, say "telephone".

The speech dialog system switches to the telephone mode.

- Press the PTT button for 1 second.

The speech dialog system responds with "Cancel" and is deactivated.
